Our November Hello theme is Gratitude. As one of our Hello activities for the month Mrs Barnes, our BTS art teacher, had all the students add their handprint to a banner for our Herriman Police Department to say "Thank You" for all their hard work! Today some of our BCE Student Council members explained our kindness campaign to the Police Department and that our school made this banner for them to show how grateful we are for them.

Toys for Tots

Thank you for your generosity in making Toys for Tots a great success again this year!  We were able to collect thirteen boxes full of toys to donate to families in need - WOW!  The Marines came to collect them last Friday.  They also put on a presentation about the Toys for Tots program and brought a light armored vehicle, which students were able to go outside and see.  Ms. Bollinger even got to go for a ride!  Special thanks to Mrs. Cedor, Miss Buckley and the Third Grade Service Project Students for working to bring this program to our school.  Way to go, B.C.E. students and community!

Hello! My name is Tricia Loveridge. I have lived in Herriman with my family for the past 12 years. I love Herriman! It is such a beautiful place. I just recently became the new administrative assistant at Butterfield Canyon Elementary, which I am very excited about!!  I have worked at the school for 9 years doing different jobs. I love the people I work with and the students at our school! We have an amazing school and staff and I consider myself very lucky to be a part of it.

A little about about me. I grew up in Upstate New York in a small town called Whitesboro. I love New York and still consider myself a New Yorker. I also lived in Nevada for 13 years in a little town called Winnemucca.  I am married to an amazing husband and we have 5 beautiful children, 4 boys and 1 girl. I also have 1 daughter-in-law and 1 adorable grand baby!

When I’m not at work I love to travel, cook, spend time with my family, use my silhouette and browse Pinterest. I also love being a Bobcat!!! I look forward to helping each of you at our school.

Warm Welcome Day!

Our students were greeted with signs, positive messages, smiles and high fives as they arrived back to school from Spring Break on Monday. It was thanks, in part, to a group of Bingham and Herriman High students who are members of the Golden Gate Club. The Bingham and Herriman students along with club members from Paradigm, Orem and Farmington High Schools came to BCE as part of our “Warm Welcome Day.” Their warm welcome brought big smiles to the faces of students, teachers, staff and parents. Even local police and firefighters pitched in to welcome the elementary school students back. The high school students then took time visiting classrooms sharing a message of kindness and the ripple effect one kind act can have each and every day.

Thanks to everyone who participated in “Welcome Day,” for rolling out such a warm welcome and sharing a great message of kindness, love and support.

Dear Students, Parents, Faculty & Staff and B.C.E. Community,

Like some of you, I will be moving to a new school for the upcoming school year.  This is an interesting year for many of us.  It’s kind of scary and also a little bit exciting, isn’t it?  Change is never easy, but with our B.C.E. Growth Mindset, we are always seeking for new opportunities, challenges and possibilities, as we continue to learn and grow.  I will miss all of you at B.C.E. very much.  I will carry you with me as I look forward to making new friends and having new adventures.  I’m sure that I will still see many of you around and I hope that you will say “Hi” or give me a hug or high-five – or all three!

I feel so grateful for the time that I have been blessed to spend at Butterfield Canyon Elementary.  We have the most amazing students, teachers, principal, staff, parents and just a wonderful community.  I could not have asked for a better place to be an assistant principal for the past two years!  I know you will welcome in our new assistant, Mrs. Staci Moore, just like you welcomed me, and I’m sure she will be an incredible addition to our school.

I have absolutely loved my time here, and I love all of you.  Thank you for the kindness, learning, understanding, magic and HEART that you have brought to my life, and to the lives of all those around you.  How lucky we are to have shared such an adventure together. 🙂  Keep being your best selves!

Love,

Ms. Checketts

First Day of 1st Grade

Dear 1st Grade Parents & Guardians,

The first day of 1st grade is August 20th. In the past, 1st graders would meet their teachers in a one-on-one or small group appointment on the first day of school. Since individual beginning of the year testing is no longer required, 1st graders will begin school the same day as 2nd-6th grade.

In order to help our 1st graders better transition back to school without a one-on-one meeting, we have a helpful video that explains what your child can expect on their first day of school.  This video can be accessed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TgjkMCC8-E&t=151s.

Please take the time to watch this video from beginning to end with your child before the first day of school.

We would also like to invite you to bring your 1st grader to Back to School Night to meet their teacher and visit their classroom. Our Back to School Night will be held on Monday, August 19th. Our school business meeting will be held at 4:00in the gym followed by an open house from 4:30-6:00.

We hope to see you there!

Introducing Our New Assistant Principal!

Hello, Butterfield Canyon Elementary Parents and Students!

It is with pleasure that I introduce myself as your new assistant principal.  I am looking forward to an incredible 2019-2020 school year at Butterfield Canyon Elementary!  One of my greatest loves is to inspire and encourage students to be the best they can be in and out of the classroom!

Let me tell you a little about myself.  I began working for Jordan School District in 2003, following eight years of teaching first grade in Murray School District. I taught third grade at both Majestic Elementary and Daybreak Elementary for the past 16 years.  I absolutely loved my time in the classroom, supporting my students and building trusting relationships that fostered learning. Educational leadership is one area that I am passionate about, and I am looking forward to working with all of the amazing student leaders here at Butterfield Canyon.

I graduated from Park City High School and completed my undergraduate degree in elementary education at Utah State University.  Go Aggies!  After spending many years in the classroom, I made the decision to continue my education, receiving my master’s degree in ESL from SUU and completing my certificate in educational administration and leadership through the University of Phoenix.

During my time away from school, I enjoy reading books that allow me to relax and let my mind wander. I also enjoy shopping, playing games, and spending time with my family.

I view a collaborative school environment as the key to creating successful teachers and students. I believe that partnerships with parents and the community are essential to enriching the experience at Butterfield Canyon Elementary.  I am eager to get to know each of you and to work to help build strong, capable learners!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Staci Moore

Book Fair

Dear Parents and Families,

Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are.  Here's what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:

  •   Set the example.  Let children see you read.
  • Have a collection of books in your home.  Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing tastes and reading skills.
  • Support our school's Book Fair.  Allow your children to choose their own books to read.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school.  It's a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level.  Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child's reading habits.

Book Fair dates:  November 6-7, 2019

Shopping Hours: 4pm-8pm (November 6th) 2pm-6pm (November 7th)

If you are not able to attend the Fair, try our new online shopping.  We've partnered with the Scholastic Store to offer over 6,000 products that ship direct to home (with free shipping on book-only orders of $25 or more)!  Visit our homepage to get started:

https://www.scholastic.com/bf/butterfieldcanyonelemschool

We hope to see you and your family at our Book Fair!! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.

Sincerely,

PTA Book Fair Committee
